Kauniainen, our new "blue foam" trial: The main project of 2003 is the new double track module system. It is very hard to provide enought "action" on a single track layout to make the layout interesting to general public. We aren't sure how successful we are going to be, but stay tuned to this page for further details.
Camera loco: In 2000 Tapiola club installed a video camera and 2.4GHz transmitter inside a loco shell.
Turntable: In 2001 Tapiola club displayed the loco depot module for the first time to public. The main attractuion here is the operating turntable with automatic alignment system.
Digital Command Control -- DCC: Tapiola has operated the modular layout with digital command control since summer 1999. The system is following Lars Lundgren's TMW-DCC-system. The IR throttle system inspired by Lorell Joiner's system described in Model Railroader magazine replacing the PC has been in use from 2002.
Semaphores: Tapiola club is presently signalling its stations. Here are some pictures of the light semaphores built, and about the jig used for assembly and description of the electronics behind all this.
New corner modules: Due to members getting more and more interested in brass kits we were forced to scrap the tightest corners. Here is a description of our new corners.
Youth projects: The younger members have assembled vans and vagons from plastic kits.
This is Brass...: For some time now the club has had a "soldering course" for the more advanced members of the club. This course is held outside normal club nights.
Block signalling: Due to transfer to DCC control the need for dicipline in train forwarding has gone. I wish to introduce some kind of limited block signalling system to the layout. This is only early thoughts...
Return loops: For the Lahti exhibition 2002 we decided to build our modular layout in a row with return loops at both ends.
Flap / Plank: We need a method of getting the members with bad back (and big belly;) also inside the loop formation layout.
